InstaPhysique, the name itself hints at the results one can achieve from this 40-minute workout. InstaPhysique joined the Sacramento scene in late May and has been booming ever since. This workout, designed by Lagree Fitness and founded by Sebastian Lagree, is a perfect blend of cardio, strength, endurance, body composition and flexibility. 12-16-city-scout-sacracramento-instaphysic-favorites-3Each class accommodates 10 students with every student working on their own Megaformer machine. Never been on a Megaformer? Well, don’t let the “mega” name intimidate you.  A Megaformer has the same moving carriage of a Pilates reformer, but that is where the similarities end. You will work off both the back and front of the Megaformer, using elements of resistance and counter-resistance in a sequence that allows for zero periods of rest. Whereas Pilates is seen as a ‘low impact’ workout, Lagree is a ‘high-intensity’ full-body workout that forces muscles to stay contracted for an entire 40-minute session. The Megaformer still allows or a no-impact, low-risk of injury workout (like Pilates), but incorporates a lot of shaking and burning. The class is structured to “burn-out” each muscle group. The class begins with a brief core warm-up to get the blood flowing, roughly 5 minutes, then moves into the lower body portion of the class.

One unique aspect of the Lagree Method is that rather than switching from the right leg to the left leg, you burn out one leg for 10 minutes straight. No, that is not a typo. 10 minutes of work will shape those long lean muscles. You’ll do various forms of lunges, inner thigh work and squats. You’ll pulse, push and pull until your legs cannot withstand anymore. You may then do another five-minute core blast (obliques). At that point, you are about halfway through class and switch to the left leg, where you’ll mimic every exercise you did on the right. The Megaformer works to strengthen and lengthen your lean muscles and helps avoid getting the bulky muscle physique. We are confident that if you start attending classes routinely, 3-4 times a week, you will see a physical transformation, both in strength and physique.

If strength training is your main form of working out, don’t shy away from the Megaformer machine. This resistance training challenges even the strongest of athletes.
